How To Make Faux Stained Glass With Glue And Acrylic Paint

This easy stained glass project is fifty-fifty more fun with a good blueprint.  One of my specialties is creating unique patterns like the Majestic Peacock Pattern used in this tutorial.

This project is relatively kid friendly and a page from a coloring book can exist used for your design along with an 8×x photo frame.  Or, yous can use a large sheet of drinking glass and draw out a detailed design.

Faux Stained Glass Peacock

For this project I used:

• One framed picture covered with drinking glass
• 1 canteen of white glue
• One canteen of clear glue
• Acrylic paints
• Blackness Sharpie pen
• Craft Blade
• Super Glue
• Peacock pattern (or page from a coloring volume)
• Clear acrylic spray sealant

Start by enlarging your pattern in the same size equally your sail of glass.

I love the color bluish and lately, I have been cartoon peacocks.  Why?  I have no idea, but they are being incorporated in several projects this calendar month.

I checked the Chinese calendar to come across if maybe this was the year of the peacock, and information technology turned out to be the year of the rabbit.  And then apparently, I'one thousand just kinda weird.  But peacock it is.

I took my thrift store find apart, and gear up aside the frame for subsequently.  Spray the glass with articulate acrylic spray.  This is important as it gives the paint and glue something to adhere to.

Lay the sheet of glass over the pattern.

How to make the leading!

Take the bottle of white glue and dump just a small bit out so that at that place is room to add together colour to it.  Add nearly a teaspoon of black acrylic paint and stir it with a wooden dowel.  Add enough blackness pigment to make a solid color.  Yous will be surprised, simply it doesn't take a ton of pigment to alter your white glue to black.  Then put the glue nozzle back on.  The mucilage is now gear up for the next stride.

Carefully clasp the glue onto the drinking glass, post-obit the lines of your design.  Try non to take shaky hand syndrome like I do, but even if you practise, it can be fixed.

For the next step, utilize a small muffin tin can to mix up your colors.  Use virtually a tablespoon of clear mucilage to one or ii drops of acrylic paint.  You will exist surprised at how easy it is to add paint to clear mucilage.

Use a blunt paintbrush and add together your colors where you want them.  Put information technology on thickly and be certain to become your colored glue all the way upward to the edges of the black lines.  Take your time and if you come across any air bubbles in the glue, use a toothpick to pop them.

For a variegated marbled look, add a color to each side of a section and push them together with your brush, mixing them in the center.  Allow the entire project to dry out overnight.

The final step is to do some touch-upwards with the sharpie pen on the leading where paint may be overlapped.  If you are neat to begin with, you might be able to skip this footstep.  I'yard not slap-up.  So my friend, the sharpie, was put to use.

I painted the frame a deep blue and re-framed the glass.  This can sit in a windowsill where the sunlight can smooth through, or you can hang it on a wall.  Either style, it turns out pretty decent and costs merely pennies.  And looks just as skilful every bit those expensive stained glass paints that you lot can buy at the craft store. Edited: One suggestion for this project is to finish it with a coat of clear acrylic spray sealant in order to protect it.
